A product name and thickness alone are not enough to select insulation correctly. The technical datasheet, Declaration of Performance and product marking identify the exact product offered and the performance declared for it.
Declaration of Performance — identifying the product
The document should link the product name, type code and variant to the information on the packaging. When accepting a delivery, compare these details with the order. Similar names do not necessarily mean identical dimensions, properties or intended uses.
Properties that must be considered together
- λD — the declared thermal conductivity of the material,
- RD — the declared thermal resistance for the specified thickness,
- dimensions, tolerances and coverage per pack,
- reaction to fire classification,
- intended use and any additional performance required for the assembly.
Technical datasheet or Declaration of Performance?
The technical datasheet brings together information for designers, suppliers and installers. The Declaration of Performance is a document required under construction products legislation; it links product identification to the declared performance of essential characteristics. If information differs, do not base your decision solely on packaging graphics or a marketing description.
What does CE marking mean?
CE marking is not a quality ranking or a statement that a product is suitable for every application. It indicates that a product covered by the relevant rules has been assessed and its performance declared against the applicable specification. You still need to check whether the declared properties meet the design requirements.
Practical checks before ordering
Record the exact product name and thickness, download the current documents, check the intended use, calculate the number of packs and confirm the design requirements. For larger projects, retain the documentation for the batch delivered.
