Glass wool or stone wool — the choice starts with the intended application and project requirements. Compare the declared properties and installation method of the specific product. The type of mineral wool alone does not determine its suitability for a roof, partition or facade.

Glass wool or stone wool — when does flexibility matter?

Glass wool is typically less dense and more flexible, making it easy to fit into spaces between pitched roof rafters, in framed structures and in suitable partition wall systems. It can also be a more economical option at a comparable thermal resistance.

BASALT stone wool — density and rigidity

Stone wool slabs are typically denser and more rigid than glass wool rolls. Different stone wool products are designed for different applications, so always check the intended use and declared properties of the specific slab. The BASALT slabs in the current Eurowool range are intended for external wall insulation in ETICS; suitability for a flat roof, ventilated facade or acoustic partition must not be assumed.

Quick selection guide

  • Pitched roofs and lofts: glass wool, such as M-30 PREMIUM
  • Framed structures and partition walls: glass wool suitable for the particular construction; for partitions, check M-30 PREMIUM or M-17 EURO against the design
  • External walls in ETICS: BASALT stone wool, subject to the product and system documentation
  • Higher acoustic requirements: select mineral wool as part of a tested or assessed acoustic assembly

The current ranges have a declared reaction to fire class A1 and carry CE marking. This does not establish the fire resistance of a complete assembly or make every product suitable for every application.
